Friday App Shout-Out: Windows 8 Launch Day Edition!
Today is a special edition of the Friday App Shout-Out, for several reasons:
- It's the first Friday App Shout-Out since Windows 8 became available to the general public (have you gotten your Surface? I got mine today in Tyson's Corner, VA and I'm LOVING IT!)
- It's the biggest Friday App Shout-Out yet!
- My own app, Community Megaphone, is a part of it.
Without further ado...the apps!
First up is ThreeWishes, a novelty app from Mark Kloch. Send your 3 wishes to the genie, and you never know, those wishes might just come true!
Next is Digital Dictator, from Ed Buhain. While the Share charm in Windows 8 covers the majority of sharing scenarios, Ed's app picks up where it leaves off by making it easy to share a status update with many different social networks simultaneously. The app currently supports Twitter, Facebook, and Yammer, with more on the way.
Our next app, DecisionMaster, is somewhat unusual, a utility that helps you make decisions by guiding you through the process of prioritizing and ranking those options based on what you value most. Definitely worth a look. DecisionMaster was written by Tim Plourde.
Last up is my own little contribution to the Windows Store, Community Megaphone. The Community Megaphone app for the Windows Store pulls in the OData feed from the Community Megaphone website, and lists upcoming developer and IT Pro events from across the United States.
The app supports the Share charm, so you can easily tell your friends about the events you're going to, as well as the Search charm (including type to search...just start typing on the app home page, and the Search charm will automatically be invoked), to make it easy to find events of interest. The app also leverages Windows 8's built-in Maps app for event locations and directions (just tap the Get Directions link on the event details page).
I'm eager to hear feedback on the app, so please drop me a note if you're using it and let me know what you think.
Would you like to be next? You can get links, videos, and 1:1 technical or design consultation (limited availability, so don't wait) for free at Generation App. Sign up takes only a few seconds, and the resources can help make you the next app rockstar.
