Upcoming Windows 8 Workshops at the Tysons Microsoft Store

image

I'm happy to announce that we're doing a series of evening workshops on developing apps and games for the Windows Store, and we're holding them at the Microsoft Store in Tyson's Corner, VA (if you're not in Mid-Atlantic, fret not, there are workshops happening at Microsoft Stores all across the country).

UX Design This Week

The first workshop in the series will take place this Friday, November 30th, and will cover UX Design for Windows Store apps, and will be presented by yours truly. You can register here. The workshop starts at 6pm, and will run until we're finished (this session runs a little shorter than the time stated on the registration page), so you should have time for a little shopping afterwards if you want to get a jump on things.

Here's an abstract for the workshop:

Windows 8 marks the next step in the evolution of the Modern UI design. Through the bold use of color, typography, and motion, Windows 8 App design style brings a fresh new approach to the user experience. In this workshop, you'll learn the design principles behind this Modern UI and get insights into how to apply these principles in your own apps.

Office Hours, too!

I'm planning to be there at 4pm for some "office hours" time, so if you have questions on Windows 8 app development, or would like me to take a look at your app in progress, please stop by early.

So here's the schedule for Friday:

4pm-6pmOffice Hours – Bring your Windows 8 app dev questions

6pm-8pm (or so) – Windows 8 UX Design Workshop – food will be provided, if you don't have time to grab dinner before the workshop

8pm-? – Shop 'til you drop

We've already got a bunch of folks registered for this week's workshop, so register now to ensure you get a spot.

Future Workshops

Next week, we'll be covering Windows 8 Game Development, with Windows 8 App Development the following week, both of which cover some of the many frameworks you can leverage to get a jump start on your Windows Store app. Depending on store availability, we may also have a workshop session on monitizing your app and getting it in the store, but that might get pushed out to the new year. I'll definitely drop a note on my blog when I know for sure.
